With proper care, dental implants can last 25 to 30 years or longer. The titanium post itself is designed to be permanent — it fuses with your jawbone and doesn't decay like natural teeth. The crown or prosthetic on top may need replacement after 15-20 years due to normal wear, but the implant foundation stays.
Alberta Health Care does not cover dental implants — they're considered an elective procedure. However, many private dental insurance plans cover a portion of implant costs (typically 50-80% of the surgical component). We recommend getting pre-authorization from your insurer before treatment. Yes. Bone loss doesn't automatically disqualify you. We offer several solutions: bone grafting to rebuild the jawbone, zygomatic implants that anchor into the cheekbone, and pterygoid implants that use the bone at the back of the upper jaw. All-on-4 uses 4 implants to support a single full-arch prosthetic bridge. 3-on-6 uses 6-8 implants to support three separate bridge segments, offering greater strength and a more natural bite distribution. 3-on-6 is typically recommended for patients who want the most durable, long-term solution and have adequate bone density.
Most patients report less pain than they expected. Under IV sedation, you won't feel anything during the procedure and will have little to no memory of it.
